There Is No Fat Gene...

Americans would say that delivering merchandise
this way would be impossible.  In the third world
country, this is the way they do it.  Point being, it's
all about what you get used to, and you can get used
to just about anything.

Decades ago, I saw a mom with a small child in a parking lot.  The child ran into a little yellow Volkswagen and started crying.  Mom, got the boy’s attention, went to the Volkswagen, slapped it, and said, “Bad Volkswagen”.  The boy eventually stopped crying, but the lesson is that nothing is your fault.

Way too many people have grown up from lazy children, to lazy adults.  I’ve noticed that the adults have endless excuses, and are very defensive about their laziness (among many other things).
It’s become common knowledge that way too many Americans are obese, sick, lethargic, and bordering on brain dead.  I’ve heard the grossly idiotic statement, “It’s in my genes, my dad was overweight, my dad’s dad was overweight, my dad’s dad’s dad was overweight”, and so on.  Well, let me tell you, there is no fat gene, neither is there a diabetes gene, a heart defect gene, a cancer gene, a lazy gene, or any other condition dictated by genes.  There are, however, endless excuses, justifications, and denials.  The reason so many Americans are fat and sick is because they are lazy, add to that the excuses and whatever else, and it continues to get exponentially worse.  There is no pill that can cure any of these conditions, no pill that can make a fat person lose weight.  There is an emotional aspect to these conditions, which I discuss in another chapter here.  Yes, there are scenarios that are not conducive to being active, work, TV, computers, video games, and others, so it does take some amount of effort to get a reasonable amount of physical activity.  Basically though, if you can do a brisk walk for one hour a day, at least three days a week, you would be amazed at your extra weight would come off, not to mention how much better you would feel.  There are other factors, eating habits being the most influential one.  What most see as the “Fat gene” is nothing more than conditioning from parents.  If the mom bakes cookies and cakes, and serves that all day, then she will have all those extra pounds, and so will her kids.  One relative in particular would scream “IT”S THE FAT GENE”, while she did exactly what I just mentioned – baked cookies and cakes all day, every day, with actual meals being occasional, not to mention, how unnourishing and toxic they were.  So, it was cakes, cookies, meat cooked to death, processed potatoes, processed pasta dishes, vegetables either not there, or there and cooked to death, and everything salted enough to make my eyes jump out of their sockets.  Another – an ex relative, would allow her 9 year old daughter to call the shots on what she ate – which was McDonalds chicken McNuggets, Kraft Macaroni and cheese, and broccoli – no exaggeration – that was her diet.  I didn’t get to see what the older sons ate at home, but at 20 and 22 years old, they both had cholesterol problems and had been on medication to treat it since they were 13 years old.  The mom, of course, screamed, “WE HAVE A GENE THAT CAUSES US TO ALL HAVE HIGH CHOLESTEROL!!!!!”.  This is the same mother who would scream insults at her nine year old daughter, who was having problems doing her homework, as in, “WHAT THE HELL, ARE YOU STUPID???”, and, “GODDAM IT, YOUR BROTHERS NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM!!!!!”, and, “WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?????”, and this was only for starters.  This poor girl was failing math, and struggling in all her other classes.  Well, good ol’ Uncle Fid spent a half an hour one day helping her with her homework, and voila, she came home that Friday with a 98% on her test.  This was after the mother scoured the town to find a “doctor” who would find some kind of excuse for her “learning disability”.  She found one who gladly told her that her daughter suffered from some kind of vision problem.  Well, Dr., and well, mother, where was her vision problem when she passed that math test with a 98?

So, if a person genuinely wants to lose the weight, wants to be in better health, you’re not going to do it by sitting in the couch every spare moment, and taking some miracle pill is not going to do the trick.  Only old fashioned physical activity, and decent eating habits will accomplish this.  Quit with the excuses, quit with the defensiveness, the justifications, the “Not everyone is an athlete”, or, “I’m tired after work”.  You can lip sync this stuff till the cows come home, but sadly it will not help you in the least.

One of the things that the body does is, when it’s active, the metabolism moves faster, keeping your organs functioning, keeping your arteries clean, your plumbing and other functions working smoothly.  Even your brain function gets clogged up when you sit around – your blood doesn’t pump briskly, it sits, it does not flush itself or your organs and tissue the way it’s designed to.  Your nerve passages will also become sludgy, your muscle tissue will become lethargic – due to not enough oxygen entering the muscle and nerve tissue – yes, as a result of sitting around.  When you first start exercising, after being inactive for years, maybe decades, your body will begin the detoxifying process, and depending on how long you’ve been inactive, and how bad your eating habits, it can take anywhere from a week to a year to get your organs and body tissue operating properly – doing what they were designed to do.

So, get off the couch, eat decent food, and quit defending your laziness, it’s not difficult.  It’s like anything else, it’s a little difficult to get started, but once you’re started, you will be in your new routine, and it will now be part of you.  And yes, it does work with eating habits.  If you’re in the habit of eating sugary crap, your body will crave that, but when you make a conscious effort to change, eating more fruits and vegetables, and not having your chicken and fish cooked to death, eat rice instead of potatoes, eat food as close to its original state as possible (within reason).  Don’t buy into fad diets and “Don’t eat this and don’t eat that”.  Food is there to nourish the body, not damage it.  Yes, huge corporations are poisoning our food, so the more certified organic you can eat, the better.  If possible, grow your own tomatoes, onions, peppers, cucumbers, carrots, and whatever else – it’s easy once you get started.  There are also those roving “Farmer’s Markets”, where you can get decent produce, and sometimes other things.  Also, for crying out loud, don’t believe any of the scare mongering that is put out there by the Medical Community, Big Pharma, and the government – 99.9% of it is absolute bullshit – designed to make you sick, scared, and an endless paying customer for their Drug Of The Month Club.  It’s very logical, and you will not find any B.S., or any pills to hide behind.  Walk, and eat decent food, and you will be well on your way.
